For example, in the Geographic Information System (GIS), one can easily find out the owner and the acquisition date of a property with just a few clicks. A decision by the Zurich High Court has now put a stop to this practice, allowing all property owners in the Canton of Zurich to block the electronic querying of such data. Since land registry data are public throughout Switzerland, they can still be requested in person at the relevant land registry office.
